Effarig United Takes The Cup
After 14 years in the wilderness, Effarig pulled off a shock 3-0 win over favourites Surlaw City in last night's AFA Cup Final, to lift the "Garsonne-Keller Trophy" again. This momentous occasion came at the end of a long hard road for the club, and a three years of hard work by coach Zandr Cullone.
"This is a proud moment for us." Cullone said in a post-match interview. "The team has worked particularly hard over the last year, and the practices and training sessions have payed off."
Stand-out performances by United striker Sjeck Andersonn, with goals in the 15th and 49th minutes, and goal-keeper Andre Mansterrn, who pulled off perhaps the save of the tournament, turned the game in the favour of the visitors. Despite continued attacks by Surlaw on the goal in the final minutes of play, United kept there heads to the final whistle, at which point the crowd errupted in red and white streamers, banners and flags.
