Poaching Ring Exposed
Police Superintendent Landers Klastony issued a press release this morning detailing the 3 year long operation to expose a poaching ring operating in and around the Nacout Wildlife Reserve.
Wardens in the reserve began to suspect in 2005 that there was a poaching ring in operation, and started gathering evidence to backup their suspicions. In 2006 the wildlife reserve enlisted the help of the police, and made a few arrests that year.
With information from the poachers in custody, Police were able to obtain search warrants for a warehouse and 2 houses, and at the beginning of this year, raids were conducted and a further 5 people were arrested.
Acting on recently uncovered information, and a tip-off from a member of the public, the police were able to track down and arrest the leader of the ring two days ago. The names of those involved have not yet been released to the public.
