Virtual Guided Tour - Page 2
After our stop-over in Doc, we head inland, over the mountain pass and through the savanna, making our way up to the capital city.
From the safari...
The plains around Surlaw City, known as the Surlaw Savanna, are home to a variety of flora and fauna. From the bigger, well-known animals like lions and elephants, through to the smaller and lesser-known antelope, suricates, foxes and rodents, there are a large number of species living in the plains. About an hour's drive outside of Surlaw City one finds the Surlaw Savanna National Park, home to most animals on the savanna. And with 4 major camps and 6 minor camps inside the reserve, folks can spend a few nights in the park savouring the wild around them.
...to the city.
As you enter Surlaw City, you get the feeling that it is both very old, and yet very young. Surlaw City was established as the country's capital city in the reign of the second king of Amall. It was the original meeting place of the king and the Higher Council, and the second king decided to settle there after needing to travel to the meeting place too many times in one year. The outerlying areas of Surlaw City still have a rural feel to them, with markets and smaller houses, while the center of the city is modern, with a number of high-rise buildings having been built in the last 50 years. The houses of parliament are in Surlaw City.
A university town
The next stop in our virtual tour is the university town of Adnocana. A large part of this town's population is made up of students from the University of Adnocana, the most well-known university in the Republic of Amall. One side effect of this is that during the university holidays the town is much quieter. Adnocana is rich in history. It was the home town of one of the chiefs of old and the university was the first tertiary institution established in Amall.
